Steve Yoder was introduced as the superintendent of parks and recreation for Huntington City Services during the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 5, in the Huntington City Building.

Yoder has worked for City Services for nearly 13 years. He worked in general park maintenance for eight years and spent the last four serving as the assistant superintendent for parks and rec.

Parks and rec duties fell under the purview of City Services Superintendent Bob Caley, but Yoder says those duties became so plentiful that they warranted the hiring of a full-time parks and rec superintendent.

Yoder started the position on Aug. 28. His responsibilities include directing current and future parks and rec projects, managing the maintenance crew and overseeing the budget.

Yoder is excited about the new opportunity.

“I have so many memories from when I was a kid and my three daughters, we’ve spent so much time at the parks,” he says. “We have people that come from other communities to see our parks, to spend time in our parks. It’s something that I take a lot of pride in.”
