Huntington University show takes on church rift

The Huntington University Theatre Company will begin its 2017-18 season with “The Christians,” a play by Lucas Hnath.

Performances are Thursday and Friday, Sept. 21 and 22, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Zurcher Auditorium of Huntington University’s Merillat Centre for the Arts.

An additional performance will be presented on Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in conjunction with the Forester Lecture Series. Dr. James Bruce, of John Brown University, will speak on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. in Zurcher Auditorium, exploring themes presented in the play.

“The Christians” focuses on a pastor who has led his mega-church from humble beginnings to grand success. Then he informs his church of an ideological epiphany, a fundamental shift that could cause an irrevocable divide between leader and followers.

For tickets, call the Merillat Centre for the Arts box office at 359-4261 Monday through Friday between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. or visit Office. Tickets will also be sold at the door before every performance.
