Rev. Casey beatification tickets now available

Tickets for the beatification Mass for Rev. Solanus Casey, which will be held Nov. 18 in Detroit, are now available.

The tickets are free but must be reserved by Monday, Aug. 14, by contacting Jan Scher at 356-1917 or 450-3045. No one will be admitted to the Mass without a ticket.

Those requesting tickets must provide their names, addresses and emails, and whether they plan to arrive in Detroit by car or by bus.

Bus transportation is available at a fee. The bus will leave SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in Huntington, the morning of Nov. 18 and return after the 4 p.m. Mass.

Commemorative T-shirts, listing the dates Casey lived in Huntington, are also available for purchase.

To reserve a seat on the bus or to purchase a T-shirt, contact Scher. Bus reservations can also be made after all Masses on Aug. 12 and 13 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., Huntington.

Casey, who lived at the former St. Felix Friary in Huntington from 1946 to 1956, has been credited with miraculous cures and wise and compassionate counsel. He was the co-founder of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit, which continues to serve the people of Metro Detroit.

Pope Francis announced on May 4 that Casey would be elevated to “blessed” in the Roman Catholic Church. Casey will now be considered for recognition by the church as a saint.

The Mass formally recognizing his beatification will be held Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. at Ford Field, in Detroit, MI. The stadium will open for seating at 2 p.m. The Mass will last for at least two hours.

The bus trip is sponsored by the Father Solanus Guild-Huntington Extension in partnership with Redeemer Radio.
