HCARS to participate in two-day field event

The Huntington County Amateur Radio Society and other local hams will participate in a two-day field event on Saturday and Sunday, June 24 and 25.

Locally, the group will operate based in front of the ReStore at the Habitat for Humanity facility, located at 250 Commerce Drive, Huntington and will be in operation continuously from 1 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday.

American Radio Relay League Field Day is the most popular on-the-air event held annually in the U.S. and Canada. More than 35,000 radio amateurs gather with their clubs or simply with friends to operate from remote locations. AARL is the national association for amateur radio in the U.S., representing more than 171,000 FCC-licensed amateurs. The 24-hour field day period is a test of radio communications in case of a disaster or other event of importance.

The public is invited to attend, especially those who are interested in becoming an amateur radio operator or want to know more about what goes on during the event.
