Huntington County SWCD has grant money available for cover crop use

The Huntington County SWCD has funding available through a Clean Water Indiana grant. This grant project will promote the use of cover crops and the application of gypsum.

Some of the benefits from these practices include improved soil health, prevent soil erosion, condition the soil and improve soil infiltration rates.

The SWCD will also provide one free soil test to each participant who wishes to have their garden tested and provide free of charge cover crop seed for these gardens.

There is a cost share per acre for seeding cover crops and applying gypsum. Producers will need to provide soil test results warranting gypsum application.

Producers in the Upper Wabash River Watershed area that are not covered by the Upper Wabash River Watershed Management Plan are eligible for cost share funds. For more details about the cost share program, contact the Soil and Water Conservation District office at 260-356-6816 ext. 3.
