Rieder to be honored at retirement open house

A retirement open house for Rev. Ron Rieder, pastor of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, will be held on Sunday, April 30, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The retirement celebration is open to the community. It will be held in Rieder Auditorium in the Huntington Catholic Sch-ool Primary Building, adjacent to SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., Huntington.

Rieder will celebrate Mass and deliver the homily at SS. Peter and Paul Church on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Rieder has served as pastor of the Huntington church since 1984. During that time, he has also been active in numerous community organizations.

He was ordained in 1963 and began his ministry in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gary. He also spent time at Marquette University, in Milwaukee, WI, before moving to the motherhouse of his order, the Capuchin Franciscans, in Detroit, MI. He later served as director of personnel for the order and superior of the motherhouse, including the soup kitchen. He served churches in St. Paul, MN, and Hazel Park, MI, and led retreats in Appleton, WI, before moving to Huntington.
