Dream Center counseling earns court approval

Huntington Superior Court Judge Jenny Newton has approved the Indiana Dream Center’s outpatient program as an option for anyone who has been ordered by her court to obtain drug or alcohol counseling.

The Dream Center says its faith-based program is designed to help with any life-controlling issues by discovering the cause of the addiction and reaching a solution.

The length of the program is determined by the court for each individual. Individuals can sign up for single classes, a 12-week program or a 24-week program. There is a fee for an assessment as well as the classes.

The instructor reports weekly on each individual to the probation officer and prosecuting attorney.

Classes are held Tuesday evenings and Friday mornings at the Indiana Dream Center office, 1324 Flaxmill Rd., Huntington.

The Indiana Dream Center program is now one of three local programs approved by Newton. New Options and the Bowen Center also offer approved counseling programs locally.

Out-of-town programs may be approved on a case-by-case basis, Newton says.

“It’s completely up to the defendants where they go,” she says.

The Dream Center program was approved once it added a certified therapist and provided information to the court about the program, the judge says.
