County health department to provide meningitis vaccine at HNHS April 13

The Huntington County Health Department will be at Huntington North High School on April 13 to provide a second dose of meningitis vaccine to students who need it.

All current HNHS juniors must have had a second dose of meningitis vaccine before beginning their senior year this fall. Most students received the first dose of the vaccine, MCV4, when they were in sixth grade.

Students may also schedule an appointment with their family physician to receive the vaccine.

Proof of vaccination must be presented on the first day of the 2017-18 school year. Seniors who have not had the vaccination could be prohibited from attending school.

The health department will also have available two additional recommended vaccines — Harvix, which protects against Hepatitis A, and Bexsero, which protects against serogroup B meningococcal disease.

Students with insurance or active Medicaid will not be charged a fee the day of the clinic. Others will be charged a reduced fee for the vaccines.

Students who want to receive any of the vaccines during the school clinic must return the consent form no later than March 29.
