Health department reschedules HNHS vaccines for March 3

Due to the cancellation of school on Wednesday, Feb. 17, the Huntington County Health Department has rescheduled its vaccination clinic at Huntington North High School for Wednesday, March 3.

The Indiana Department of Health - citing an uptick in incidences of meningitis, pertussis (whooping cough) and chicken pox - is requiring additional vaccinations for students entering grades six through 12 in fall 2010.
They include Tdap, a tetanus booster with pertussis; Menactra, a vaccination against meningitis; and an additional vaccination against chicken pox, also known as varicella.

Parents of students who do not have proof of vaccination at the beginning of the 2010-11 school year will be given 20 days to either submit that proof or schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine, says Claudia Thompson, nurse for Huntington County Community Schools.
