March blood drives honor donors and volunteers during American Red Cross Month

March is American Red Cross Month, and the organization is honoring blood donors and volunteers.

"March is a time we can honor the contributions Red Cross volunteers make to our nation," says Sharyn Whitman, CEO for the Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross. "It's a time, too, when we like to encourage more people to get involved through the simple act of blood donation or by volunteering at a blood drive in their community."

Several blood drives are scheduled in Huntington County during March, and each presenting donor will receive a coupon for a free doughnut at Dunkin Donuts.

Area blood drives include:

• Saturday, March 6, from 8 a.m. until noon at Central Christian Church in the Fellowship Hall, located at 500 MacGahan St. in Huntington.

• Sunday, March 7, from 7:15 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, located at 765 Poplar St. in Huntington.

• Friday, March 12, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Walmart, located at 2800 Walmart Drive in Huntington.

• Monday, March 15, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Evangelical United Methodist Church, located at 1000 Flaxmill Road in Huntington.
