Crestview band members earn awards at solo, ensemble contest

The Crestview Middle School band members participated in the annual Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Eastbrook High School on Saturday, Jan. 30.

The following students scored a Gold rating in division five (seventh grade): Elizabeth Leach, flute; Madison Phillips, clarinet; Hannah Edris, alto saxophone; Alex Finney, trumpet, Lauren Sands, French horn; Austin Kennedy, trombone; Madison Gick, bells; and Erica Freise, snare drum.

Graham Sereno achieved a Silver rating on his trumpet solo.

The following ensembles scored a Gold in division five as well: David Prather, Emily Eherenman and Lauren Sands in a French horn trio; Madison Phillips, Abbey Blocker and Kaitlyn Oswalt in a clarinet trio; Austin Kennedy, Ashley Okuly and Carley McElhaney in a trombone trio; and Olivia Woolard, Emily Stahly and Houston Lehman in an alto saxophone trio.

In addition, a woodwind quartet in division five made up of Alexa Sutterflute (flute), Lilly Wright (clarinet), Hannah Edris (alto saxophone) and Stephanie McElaney (alto saxophone) achieved a Silver rating.

In division four (eighth grade), the following soloists achieved a Gold rating: Kay Bennett, flute; Sarah Christman, flute; Andrew McElhaney, tenor saxophone; Kaylie Killian, trumpet; Daniel Zahm, trumpet; and Elizabeth Reed, baritone.

The band students are under direction of Doug McElhaney.
