Recycling bins gone from Huntington sites

The recycling bins, formerly located in the old Marsh parking lot and in the Wal-Mart parking lot, were removed at the beginning of the year, Mayor Steve Updike announced Monday morning, Jan. 4, at the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.

To continue recycling, citizens are encouraged to take their items to the landfill during normal business hours, where they will dispose of it properly.

In other landfill news, Stan Dyke of Marion Services informed the board of works that their temporary contract to bring in non-hazardous waste from Marion has expired, and the board revised its contract and it will be up for passage into the contract on Jan. 18. The amendment limits the daily allowance to 80 tons of material, which is an increase of about three trucks from the initial six loads in the temporary contract.

The next meeting is Monday, Jan. 18 at 9 a.m.
