Recognizing that many food pantries are feeling the stress of the current economic conditions in the area, North Central Co-op in conjunction with one of its major suppliers, Land O'Lakes, will be donating $27,500 to assist food pantries within the North Central Co-op (NCC) trade area.

"We're very pleased to be able to have this matching program with the Land O'Lakes Foundation," says Darrell Smith, North Central Co-op's president and CEO. "Each year we try to use these matching funds to benefit groups across northern Indiana and southern Michigan.
"This year we felt the best use of these dollars would be in assisting the food relief efforts of the various organizations serving our rural communities. Thirteen different groups will be receiving $1,000 to $2,000 from this matching grant.

"The Land O'Lakes Foundation, established in 1996, provides cash grants to non-profit and community organizations in states where Land O'Lakes has a concentration of members or employees, and is made possible by support from Land O'Lakes, Inc." Smith explains.

Smith adds that North Central Co-op is in the food business as a supplier of inputs to farmers and a marketer of their grain so it just seemed a logical choice to use the matching funds to help feed people at this season of the year.
