Mural painter Fettinger earns historical society's Miller award

Huntington resident Robert Fettinger, whose mural of a long-ago downtown Huntington graces the wall of the Huntington County Historical Museum, received the Huntington County Historical Society's 2009 Virginia Miller Award on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

The award is presented annually to presented to an individual who has helped preserve some aspect of Huntington County history. It is named in honor of the first recipient, whose efforts to preserve Huntington County history led to the creation of the museum's 1835 model village.

Also during the historical society's Dec. 15 meeting, Mark Anson was recognized for his serve as the society's president. Anson is stepping down after this year.

Fettinger's mural is the focal point of the new addition to the museum building. The mural captures the vitality of downtown Huntington in the 1950s.
