Parkview Huntington Hospital has been recognized for its work in reducing the number of elective inductions and cesarean deliveries performed before the 39th completed week of pregnancy.

The March of Dimes and the Indiana Hospital Association recognized Park -view Huntington and 50 other Indiana hospitals for the achievement.

"The last weeks of pregnancy are important," says Kristi Geiger, division director for the March of Dimes.

"Babies aren't just putting on weight. They are undergoing important development of the brain, lungs and other vital organs."

Babies who survive an early birth are at risk of breathing problems, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities and other lifelong health challenges, the March of Dimes says.
