Health department announces where H1N1 vaccine is available locally

The Huntington County Department of Health has announced locations where the H1N1 vaccine is available.

It is available to the public at Walgreens, Kmart and Owen's pharmacies and at RediMed of Huntington.

The vaccine is available to patients of the following private practices: Huntington General Practice, Huntington Medical Group, Family Practice Association, Pediatric Medical Group, Dr. Stamm and Dr. Rao, Dr. S. Schwieterman and the Huntington County Free Health Clinic.

An administration fee may apply at any community provider.

The department says the vaccine continues to be stocked in quantitites below CDC pro-jections, but weekly shipments continue to arrive.

Doses are distributed to community providers and are also administered through the Health Department by appointment only. Walk-in clinics are not being scheduled at this time to avoid long lines.

To date, about 3,400 doses have been received from the state and, out of that, 2,800 does have been disbursed to Huntington providers.

The Health Department also says it has received enough reserve vaccine to resume plan-ning for school-based clinics. These clinics will be announced through the school corporation and parents are encouraged to use the school Web site,, to check for updates.

The public should contact their private provider first or go to a community public provider for vaccine administration, department officials say. Citizens unable to access vac-cine through the providers can call the Health Department to be placed on a list.

Internal clinics will be planned for CDC priority groups utilizing the established call list according to vaccine availability.
