School board approves leave requests

The Huntington County Community School Corporation Board of Trustees approved professional leave requests for several teachers and administrators during the school board meeting on Jan. 26.

Teachers or administrators making the request; the name of the school or facility where they work; and the name, date and location of the conference they plan to attend include:

• Dawn Eckert with Huntington-Whitley Special Services - Instructional Strategies for Special Needs Learners, West Lafayette, Jan. 15-16.

• Betsy Motter, Huntington North High School - Indiana Computer Education Conference, Indianapolis, Jan. 27-29.

• Shelley Paschal, Horace Mann, Indiana Association for the Gifted Conference, Indianapolis, Feb. 2-3.

• Rick Forrester, Salamonie, Northeast Regional Indiana Department of Education Media Meeting, Fort Wayne, Feb. 12.

The following teachers, who are on the Textbook Adoption Committee that is looking at new textbooks for the school corporation's Social Studies curriculum, requested to participate in a textbook caravan to Fort Wayne on Jan. 28. Teachers are: Jon Bordeaux and Rachael Harshman, Crestview; Lynn Brown, Salamonie; Kyle Daugherty, Thom Duncan, Curtis Hines, Rob Irgang, Mike Martynowicz and Chris Wilkins, Huntington North High School; Jennifer Dornseif, Roanoke; Patty Jacobs, Andrews; Janette Moore from the Instructional Services Center; Jeanne Paff , Lancaster; Cindy Paul, Horace Mann; Ashley Ransom, Lincoln; and Rachel Wenning, Northwest.

The following teachers requested to attend Leveled Literacy Intervention Training in New Haven on Feb. 12-13: Shanna Callahan, Holly Harris and Jennifer Weber from Lincoln; Sara Cooper and Katie DeYoung from Salamonie; Lori Grable and Emily Teusch from Flint Springs; Kriston Hosler from Roanoke; Beth Husband from Lancaster; Cari Lindsey and Lisa Meyer from Northwest; and Dennis Wiegmann from Horace Mann.

Three teachers from Horace Mann requested to attend the Marci Cook Conference in Indianapolis on Feb. 18 - Lisa Merryman, Mary Paul and Susan Schownir.

Three teachers with Huntington-Whitley Special Services requested to attend Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Training in Muncie Feb. 18-19 - Leslie Ahfeld, Sue Corbin and Melinda Rider.

Two administrators with Huntington-Whitley Special Services requested to attend the Indiana Council of Administrators of Special Education Spring 2009 Conference in Indianapolis Feb. 24-27 - Vendetta Gutshall and Bob McCaslin.
