Roanoke Kiwanis Club awards three scholarships

The Roanoke Kiwanis Club has chosen three recipients to be awarded $500 scholarships.

The scholarships were awarded to students who attended Roanoke Elementary and have excelled in a variety of areas including academics, extra-curricular activities and community service.

One of the scholarships is named in honor of the late DeLoss Hartley. Hartley was a founding member of Roanoke Kiwanis and a civic leader in Roanoke.

Madison Carmichael was the recipient of the DeLoss Hartley Memorial Kiwanis Scholarship. She plans to attend St. Mary's College in South Bend to study nursing and is the daughter of Andy and Jennie Carmichael of Huntington.

Recpients of the remaining scholarships are Abby Blocker and Caitlin Ellis.

Blocker plans to attend Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis to study business. She is the daughter of Dan and Cindy Blocker, of Roanoke.

Ellis plans to attend the Art Institute of Indianapolis to study interior design. She is the daughter of Trent and Denise Ellis of Roanoke.
