Cleanup dates set in Roanoke

The Roanoke Town Council selected spring cleanup days during its meeting on Tuesday, May 6.

Council established Friday, May 30, to Sunday, June 1, as the cleanup period. During that time, bins will be placed in the town hall parking lot and citizens may dispose of refuse. Receptacles will also be in the alleyway next to the town hall and electronic waste may be disposed of there.

In other business:

Council signed a contract with Melrose Pyrotechnics, Inc. to provide the fireworks for the Fourth of July fireworks show. The $5,500 cost for the show will be paid by the Roanoke Tractor Pullers Association.

Chad Taylor, fire chief of the Roanoke Volunteer Fire Department, reported that his three newest applicants have all left the department after being unable to complete the minimum amount of training hours required by the state.

Council decided to vacate the utility easement on the west side of 518 High St.
