Three students win Andrews Elementary scholarships

Andrews Elementary School has announced that the winners of the Jason Harlan and Brandon Wilburn Memorial Scholarships for 2014 are Hannah Whitacre, Holly Bickel and Tiffany Burke.

Each winner will receive a one-time $500 scholarship.

Whitacre is the daughter of Chris and Diane Whitacre, of Andrews. She will pursue a psychology and Spanish degree from Indiana University in hopes of becoming a counselor or neuropsychologist.

While attending Huntington North High School, Whitacre has participated in many extracurricular activities, such as Spanish Club, Chinese Club, German Club, 4-H, Viking New Tech, Class Council, Viking Chorale, Varsity Singers stage crew and IU Honors Foreign Exchange Program.

Bickel is the daughter of Joseph and Patricia Bickel, of Huntington. She will pursue a nursing and business degree from Indiana University.

While attending HNHS, she has participated in extracurricular activities such as Rotary Interact Service Club, Class Council, track, swimming, freshmen mentoring, Viking Voice, United Way representative, Relay for Life and four mission trips through College Park Church.

Burke is the daughter of Dave and Paula Burke, of Huntington. She will pursue a nursing degree from Indiana-Purdue University of Fort Wayne.

While attending HNHS, Burke has participated in extracurricular activities such as Student Athletic Board, National Honor Society, freshmen mentoring, volleyball, basketball and softball.

The scholarship is sponsored by the Andrews PTO to recognize students who have previously attended Andrews Elementary.
