Huntington University, Downtown Business Group offering Digital Photo Scavenger Hunt

Huntington University and the Downtown Business Group are partnering to offer a Digital Photo Scavenger Hunt, on Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The scavenger hunt is part of the university's Parent Weekend.

"The group was approached by the university to offer an activity that would provide an opportunity for students, freshmen mostly, and their families more exposure to the local businesses and what they have to offer," states Rich Najuch, co-owner of the New Huntington Theater.
"After playing with a few ideas, we decided that this would be a really good one."

Fourteen area businesses have signed up to participate in the event. Various items, including coffee cups and blankets, bearing the university's logo will be placed at the locations.

They are Plasterer's Antiques and Things, Pace Chevrolet, Wehr Into Flowers, First Fed-eral Savings Bank, Nick's Kitchen, Victory Noll, Myers Jewelry, Smith Furniture, City Building, Huntington County Courthouse, Huntington County Historical Museum, Four Corners Custom Framing and The New Huntington Theater.

Scavenger hunters will receive a cover sheet of all participating businesses as well as a map. They will then visit the locations and after finding the item, take a picture with their cameras or picture phones. After taking all the photos, hunters will take their cameras to Najuch to confirm that they have gone to all the locations. Upon confirmation, they will be awarded prize packets.

Prizes include coupons, tickets and "Chamber Bucks," which can all be used at the participating businesses.
Prize sponsors are Plasterer's Antiques and Things, The Herald-Press, Pace Chevrolet, Wehr Into Flowers, First Federal Savings Bank, The New Huntington Theatre, Huntington County TAB and Mayor Steve Updike.

"Huntington has a lot to offer and we just wanted an opportunity to expose that to the students," Najuch states.

He adds that he hopes that more scavenger hunts will be offered, especially for the community at large.

"Although this particular hunt is geared toward the university's students, we would love to offer this again."
