Absentee voting for 2014 primary election to begin on Tuesday, April 8, on second floor of courthouse

Absentee voting for the 2014 primary election will begin on Tuesday, April 8.

Voters may cast their ballots in the hallway outside the Huntington County clerk's office, located on the second floor of the Huntington County Courthouse, weekdays beginning April 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The courthouse will be closed on April 18 for Good Friday, so voting will not take place on that day.

However, the courthouse will be open to voters on two Saturdays, April 26 and May 3, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Early voting at the courthouse will end on Monday, May 5, at noon.

Voters may also submit their ballots by mail. The ABS-MAIL application may be requested by calling the county clerk's office, 358-4820, or downloaded from www.indianavoters.com.

The completed application must be hand delivered, mailed or faxed to the clerk's office no later than April 28 at midnight. After the application is processed, the official election ballot will be mailed to the voter.

Any voter with an injury or illness, a voter caring for a confined person at a private residence or a voter with disabilities may vote an absentee ballot by requesting a visit from the Absentee Traveling Board to the voter's residence or place of confinement.

To request a visit from the Traveling Board, call the county clerk's office no later than May 2. The Traveling Board will schedule a time to visit.

The deadline to register to vote in the primary election, or to update an existing registration, is April 7. The county clerk's office will accept new or updated registrations until 4:30 p.m. on that day.

Voters using the online service at www.indianavoters.com have until 11:59 p.m. to register or update a registration.

The primary election will be held on May 6. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Voters must be current on their registration and must also present a valid state-issued photo ID, driver's license or identification card, at the polls.

To be eligible to vote in the primary election, a voter must be a United States citizen and must be at least 18 years old by the date of the next general election, Nov. 4.
