Parade, costume contest in downtown Roanoke Halloween afternoon, Oct. 31

A parade and costume contest will be held in downtown Roanoke on Halloween.

Children are invited to gather on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 4 p.m. at the Roanoke Town Hall. A fire truck will escort the children as they parade through the downtown. The parade will end at the Roanoke Brethren Church.

Judging will then take place for a cash prize in each of the following categories: Funniest, Scariest, Most Creative and Most Unusual.

There will also be games with prizes, candy, hot dogs and hot chocolate for everyone.

Afterward, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., "Trunk or Treat" will take place in the church parking lot.

The membership of the church will be decorating their car trunks and handing out candy to the trick or treaters.

The event is sponsored by the Roanoke Chamber of Commerce, the Roanoke Fire Department and the Roanoke Brethren Church.
