'Hoosier Heroes' scholarships now available

"Hoosier Heroes," a program of Indiana Dollars for Scholars, is an opportunity for Indiana high school juniors and seniors to win one of 10 $2,000 college scholarships while honoring a Hoosier who has had a significant impact on their life.

To participate in the competition, students must select a living, current or former Indiana resident who inspires them and create a well-written, inspiring essay about that person, nominating him or her as a hero in one of the following five categories; arts and athletics, business, science and technology, education, personal inspiration or service.

The top two student winners in each category will each receive a $2,000 postsecondary scholarship and their heroes will also receive $2,000 to designate as a scholarship in his or her name to the Indiana high school of his or her choice.

The deadline for nominations is Dec. 11, and scholarships will be awarded at the Sixth Annual Hoosier Heroes Celebration on May 6, 2010 in Indianapolis.
