Monday, October 7, 2013 7:54 AM
The fall installment of Huntington County property taxes are due on Nov. 12, Huntington County Treasurer Brenda Hamilton has announced.
The due date is two days later than normal this year, Hamilton says, because the normal due date falls on a weekend and the courthouse will be closed on Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day.
Taxes not paid by Nov. 12 will be assessed a penalty.
Taxes can be paid at the several banks and credit unions if the taxpayer has a printed tax bill, there are no delinquent taxes and no partial payments are made.
Financial institutions accepting payments are Beacon Credit Union, Bippus State Bank, First Farmers Bank & Trust, First Federal Savings Bank, 1st Source Bank, Lake City Bank, and iAB financial bank.
Payments can be made by credit or debit card. Credit card payments are accepted online at www.huntingtontax.net up to midnight on Nov. 12 or by phone 800-809-5849 up to 5 p.m. on Nov. 12. A convenience fee is charged for this service. Callers should have their tax bills ready when the call is made.
Payments can be mailed to Huntington County Treasurer, 201 N. Jefferson St., Room 104, Huntington, IN 46750. Mail must be postmarked by Nov. 12 to be considered on time and not receive a penalty. To request a receipt, include a self-addressed stamped envelope. If a payment is made by check, the check is considered a receipt.
The county treasurer's office is currently accepting payments second installment payments. The courthouse is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday though Friday, with entrance through the Jefferson Street doors only. The treasurer's office will also be open to accept payments Nov. 9 from 8 a.m. to noon.
The treasurer's office will close Nov. 13 for approximately one week to process payments. During that time, late payments may be dropped through the mail slot in the treasurer's office door.
