Property taxes due on Nov. 10

Huntington County fall property taxes are due on Tuesday, Nov. 10, County Treasurer Brenda Hamilton has announced.

Taxes can be paid at most banks in Huntington County or at the Treasurer's Office in Room 104 of the Courthouse. Hours for the Treasurer's Office are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For the public's convenience, the Treasurer's Office will be open Saturday, Nov. 7, from 8 a.m. to noon.
Taxes may be paid by credit card, with a fee, by calling 800-809-5849. They may also be paid online at www.huntingtontax.net up to midnight on Nov. 10. Credit cards are not accepted in the Treasurer's Office.

Payments can also be mailed to the Huntington County Treasurer, 201 N. Jefferson St. Room 104 Huntington IN 46750, but must be postmarked by Nov. 10, 2009. Those paying by mail and requesting a receipt must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope and payment stubs for the return of paid receipts.

A penalty of 5 percent will be applied after the Nov. 10 deadline for the first 30 days if the taxpayer has a balance due and if no previous taxes are delinquent. An additional 5 percent penalty will be added after 30 days.

For those who have delinquent taxes prior to the second installment, the penalty will automatically be 10 percent after Nov. 10.

The Treasurer's office will be closed for about a week after Nov. 10 to process.

Delinquent payments may be dropped off through the mail slot on the Treasurer's Office door.

If a property is scheduled to be included in the next tax sale, payments must be received no later than noon on Monday, Nov. 23, in order to have the property removed from the tax sale list.

The tax sale for Huntington County will be held in the GAR Room of the Courthouse on Nov. 24 at 10 a.m.

A list of properties scheduled to be included in the tax sale can be found online at www.sri-taxsale.com.
