The Huntington North High School Varsity Singers began their 2013-14 season with a three-day camp that included a day of community service.

The 40-voice show choir, with Dan Baker as its new director, held rehearsals Wednesday and Saturday, Aug. 7 and 10, at the high school. The Varsity Brass and stage crew members joined the singers in a community volunteer day on Thursday, Aug. 8.

During the day of community service, the group gave back to the community by working at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and Police Athletic League, helping with painting, landscaping, cleaning and other chores.

The Varsity Singers also volunteer to ring bells for The Salvation Army during the Christmas season and sing Christmas carols at area nursing homes.

The Varsity Singers open their season with performances at the Forks of the Wabash Pioneer Festival Sept. 28 and 29, followed by the annual fund-raising Pomp & Plenty dinner show in November. The group's contest season is January through May.
