Hunt is on for grouches in Markle for festival
Thursday, August 8, 2013 7:44 AM
The hunt is on for grouches in Markle.
And when they're found, they'll be hauled in front of the entire town.
It's all in good fun, though.
Recognition of the four "grouches" - actually some of the most highly respected people in the community - is a traditional part of Markle's Wildcat Days celebration.
This year's festival will be held Aug. 23-25, and the 2013 grouches will be announced on the opening night of the festival.
Grouches may be nominated for the honor now through Saturday, Aug. 10. Nominations may be placed in boxes at Markle-area businesses. After the nominations are collected, a ballot will be drawn up and votes may be cast Aug. 12-19 at a quarter a vote.
All nominees must either live or work in Markle.
