Gethsemane Ministries, in Huntington, has opened up a food pantry at the church.

"We just felt like that there was a need in the community," said Jo Brown, who headed up the project for the church.

It took about a month for the pantry to be completed, Brown said, as shelves were installed and freezers put in.

Though she guided the project, Brown credits the entire church for its involvement.

"Everybody from the church has donated money and canned goods and everything like that," she said. "It's like a church project, is what it is. It's not just me and (Bonnie Simon, pantry volunteer). It's everybody."

Brown said she is currently in the process of getting the pantry registered with food banks in Fort Wayne and that those food banks will help the pantry fill out its shelves.

The pantry is open by appointment only on Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To make an appointment, call 358-5506 or 356-0513 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Gethsemane Ministries is located at 2239 Hartman St., Huntington.
