Area residents get invitation to Drover Town Block Party June 2 at St. Peter’s FC Church

On Sunday, June 2, from 2 to 6 p.m., the Henry Street Block Club invites area residents to the Drover Town Spring Block Party.

The event will be held in the parking lot at St. Peter's First Community Church.

Richard Strick, resident engagement coordinator and pastor at St. Peter's, says the event is a collaborative effort.

"We have been working with the city, Pathfinder Services and Breyer's Ice Cream," Strick states. "The main goal of the party is to connect residents with each other."
He adds that the Drover Town project is a redevelopment initiative and one that has been going on for some time with positive results.

"We've been working with the city and residents and listening to what they have to say," he notes. "The residents are identifying things they want to see changed in their community and we're coming alongside them and helping to make that happen."

During the block party, Strick says information on the project will be available to those interested.

"We have also worked with an architectural firm based in Fort Wayne in assessing what the redevelopment project would look like," he states. "Included in the plans is the downtown area, as we feel the Drover Town area and the business district are linked. If you have residents living downtown, it's only natural that you would want them shopping locally."

He adds that the Historical Society is also working and putting together a short history of Drover Town.

"Although there will be information available, the main focus is having fun with your neighbors," Strick notes. "We hope that residents will see this and be encouraged to have block parties of their own."

Entertainment for the event will be provided by local band Roustabout.

Those attending are advised to bring their own seating.

The church is located at 206 Etna Ave., Huntington.
