Former Huntington valedictorian Gardner earns doctorate at Penn

David Gardner, a 2001 valedictorian at Huntington North High School, received his doctorate in English on May 13 from the University of Pennsylvania.

Gardner, the son of John and Joan Gardner, of Huntington, was accepted into Penn's Ph.D. program after graduating in the top 1 percent of his class at Duke University. He has spent the last few years, while completing his degree, teaching classes at Penn, Rosemont College and Community College of Philadelphia.

Gardner has accepted a fall teaching position at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA.

The academy has a rich history, which includes John Hancock being one of the founders, and notable graduates include President George H.W. Bush, President George W. Bush and New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick.
