Summer park program begins June 3
Monday, May 27, 2013 8:23 AM
The Huntington Parks & Recreation Department will offer a six-week "Summer Parks And Recreation for Kids" (S.P.A.R.K.) program again this year, beginning Monday, June 3, and running through Friday, July 12.
For the 13th summer, children ages 5-14 are invited to visit one of five local parks and participate in games, sports, crafts and field trips.
Locations for the program include Memorial, General Slack, Drover, Elmwood and Laurie Parks.
This year's theme will be "Minute To Win It," where children will participate in 60-second games at their park.
The program will take place each day from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
There is an hour break for lunch from noon to 1 p.m., during which the parks will not be staffed.
There is a registration fee per child, which will be collected at the parks and will cover the entire six-week program.
For families who need financial assistance, an "Angel Fund" has been set up for scholarships.
Pre-registration is not necessary. Children can bring registration forms to the park on the first day of S.P.A.R.K.
If children did not bring home a form from school, forms are available on the parks department website or at the park.
Free lunches from HCCSC will be available this summer in each of the parks.
