The Huntington Parks and Recreation Department wrapped up the 2012-2013 walking season with a celebration on Friday, April 26.

This season, the walkers logged more than 7,040 miles as a group, the equivalent to just over two trips from San Diego, CA, to Bangor, ME.

Walkers were challenged to "Walk Across Indiana" by personally logging at least 140 miles, the distance across the state.

Fourteen walkers completed that challenge.

Another challenge issued to walkers was to "Walk the Indy 500," or walk at least 500 miles.  Six walkers met this challenge.

The 2013-2014 walking season will begin on Oct. 7.

Beginning in October, Heritage Hall at Hier's Park will be open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 7 to 9 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, from 3 to 5 p.m. for free walking.
