Wiley earns HNHS Teacher of Year honor
Tuesday, April 23, 2013 2:20 PM
Debbie Wiley, who has taught at Huntington North High School for nearly 40 years, was named the HNHS teacher of the year for 2013 on Tuesday, April 23.
Huntington North Principal Chad Daugherty, who announced Wiley's selection, told her fellow teachers that Wiley was already teacher at HNHS when he did his student teaching there - and always offered him fresh-baked cookies.
Wiley teaches in the family and consumer sciences department.
"This person is very, very well respected in this building," Daugherty said. "She has that type of leadership that's very servient."
In addition to teaching, Wiley and her husband Joe Wiley have long been involved in the school's booster club, Daugherty said.
"She is the epitome of what Huntington North is," he said. "She's always going above and beyond ... She never has a bad day."
"I feel like I'm in a whole room of teachers of the year," Wiley said as she stepped forward to accept the honor. "Thank you. You are all deserving."
