B&G Club, parks dept. to celebrate Worldwide Day of Play on Friday

The Boys & Girls Club of Huntington County and the Huntington Parks and Recreation Department are teaming up to celebrate the Worldwide Day of Play on Friday, Sept. 25.

The Worldwide Day of Play is being promoted by the Nickelodeon children's television network to encourage all children to turn off the television and go outside to play.

The local event will take place at Drover Park and the Bendix-Hiner Splash Pad, 1215 Etna Ave., from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. It's free to all youth and families.

Those attending can participate in a free throw competition, recycling relays, Frisbee toss, hopscotch, a scavenger hunt, four-square, spud, kick the can, jump rope challenge and football tag.

Prizes will include water bottles, jump ropes and Frisbees.

Corn on the cob, hot dogs and bottled water will be served.

To finish off the night, the Boys & Girls Club and LACE (Local Anti-Drug Coalition Efforts) will sponsor a middle school dodgeball tournament from 7 to 11. The event is free to all middle school students and includes food. Each member of the winning team will receive a T-shirt.
