Markle also discusses golf cart ordinance

The Andrews Town Council conducted regular business at its meeting on Monday, Sept. 14.

A main point of discussion concerned a new ordinance, 2009-11, which would permit the use of golf carts on public streets in town limits. The necessity for the measure comes becauase of a new Indiana law which prohibits the use of golf carts on public roadways unless a municipality decides otherwise. Similar measures have been or are being considered in Warren and Roanoke.

The ordinance was tabled until the council's next meeting in order to amend the law as presented to include items such as duration of permits for the carts, the cost of permits and fines associated with violations and if children riding in the carts would need restraining devices.

Andrews legal counsel Mike Hartburg says he will have the changes ready by the next meeting on Monday, Sept. 21.

In other business, the council selected low bidder TW Excavating as the company to remove concrete from the pavilion area at the Andrews Park.

The council also opened two sealed proposals from ERS Towers and U.S. Cellular, LLC. The proposals will be reviewed and discussed at the Sept. 21 meeting.
