Andrews council reviews latest handbook draft

The Andrews Town Council reviewed the latest draft of the town's employee handbook at its Monday, Feb. 25, meeting.

The draft examined by council incorporated suggestions made previously by the town's attorney, which council signed-off on during its Feb. 11 meeting, as well as suggestions made by council itself. Council Clerk-Treasurer Bill Johnson believes the handbook is nearing a final draft.

"We're going to ask for one final addendum to it and that has to do with employees (notifying) council when they're leaving town for conferences," said Johnson.
"And once we get that I think we're pretty well ready to go with it."

Council discussed dropping AT&T as the service provider for town-issued cell phones, which are used infrequently by town employees due to poor service by AT&T in the Andrews area. Council is proposing a switch to Verizon, which has a service tower in town that offers better signal strength.

The results of a recent inspection conducted by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) at the town's waste water treatment plant pleased council. The IDEM report stated that property maintenance had greatly improved and praised the installation of new equipment.

In other business, council unanimously passed Ordinance 2013-01, which established for town code its new two-meeting a month schedule; authorized Johnson funds for the purchase of new bookshelves for the town's office and President John Harshbarger announced he would be attending a seminar in Carmel on March 12 about the planning and execution of town festivals.
