Riverview students Smekens, Daugherty earn Kiwanis honors

The Huntington Metro Kiwanis Club has recognized Riverview Middle School students Sophia Smekens and Sam Daugherty as Outstanding Eighth Graders.

The students were honored during the club's dinner meeting on Jan. 28. Each student received a plaque to keep and their names will be engraved on a plaque made by Huntington Metro Kiwanis member Jim Dinius.

Smekens is the daughter of Brady and Kristina Smekens. She is involved in academic clubs, acting, choir and band. She would like to be a biomedical chemist in the field of pediatric ophthalmology.

Daugherty is the son of Chad and Deb Daugherty. He is involved in cross country, football, basketball, games club, Campus Life, band and science club. He is a chess champion and spelling bee champion and has been named athlete of the month. He would like a career in the field of mathematics and sports.
