Pathfinder offering free help with tax preparation

Pathfinder Community Connections, the Community Development division of Pathfinder Services, will again provide free tax preparation assistance to people with low-to-moderate income this year, Jan 28 through April 15.

This year, a new feature will be available to taxpayers.

In addition to regular tax preparation appointments, a self-assistance will be offered.

The kiosk will be available Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Taxpayers can come in and do their own taxes through a user-friendly, free e-file program.

Trained volunteers will be present to answer any questions. This is a walk-in service and is on a first come, first serve basis.

This is beneficial for those who are comfortable working on their own tax return online, but would prefer to have some aid in specific questions.

Last year was the fourth year for the program, and more than 900 tax returns were completed by over 20 volunteers. A total of 253 families received Earned Income Tax Credits and a total of $1.1 million in tax refunds.

The free tax preparation program begins Jan. 28 and continues through April 15.
