The LaFontaine Arts Council presented Artist of the Month Awards to three Crestview Middle School students, on Friday, Dec. 14.

Eighth-graders Tyler Gates, Jaycee Thorn and Stone Myers accepted their awards from Debbie Dyer, executive director of the arts council.

Gates was nominated by band director Doug McElhaney.

Gates has competed in solo and ensemble contests where he earned gold ratings and was selected to the all-region band. He was also named Student of the Year and Student of the month three times.

Gates is the son of Troy and Linda Gates.

Thorn was nominated by choir teacher William Richey.
She has participated in Circle the State with Song and the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest every year.
Thorn is the daughter of JoEllen Thorn.

Myers was nominated by art teacher Stefanie Gaza.
Gaza stated that Myers is "great at drawing from life and has a lot of potential to take that skill and run with it!"
