Vikes to march for community
Monday, October 8, 2012 8:22 AM
The Huntington North High School marching band will present its 2012 competition show in a free community performance on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Kriegbaum Field.
The show begins at 7 p.m. and is expected to last less than an hour.
The show theme is "Madgic" - magic in a mad world - and includes band members coming out of a hat. Performers change uniform colors mid-show.
The new uniforms worn by the band represent a $40,000 outlay made possible by a community fund-raising effort.
The Marching Vikes will compete in the regional Indiana State School Music Association band festival on Saturday, Oct. 13, in Lafayette. HNHS is scheduled to perform at 7:53 p.m.
The local band earned the right to compete in the regional with its gold rating at the district festival on Sept. 29.
Eighty of the 127 high school marching bands will be selected to advance from the regionals to semi-state competition.
