Coming down

A crew from the Huntington Street Department works on removing a tree from in front of the Condit Street fire station on Thursday, Oct. 4. Several trees were removed from around the building to make way for a new truck bay. The Condit Street station is being expanded as the city of Huntington consolidates three fire stations down to two, closing the downtown station at the City Building on Cherry Street. The Neighborhood Recreation Center, which adjoins the Condit Street station, will be repurposed as administrative offices for the Huntington Fire Department. Construction on the new Condit Street truck bay is expected to begin later this year. No changes are planned at the Etna Avenue fire station.
