Huntington CROP Walk set for Oct. 4

The Huntington County CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Walk will be held Sunday afternoon, Oct. 4.

Walkers will step off on a 5K walk through Huntington at 2 p.m., joining participants in some 2,000 cities and towns nationwide.

Churches who would like to become involved in the event are asked to call Dean Beery, event coordinator, at 356-4444.

Last year, the 13 participating churches raised more than $6,300 to help stop poverty in the community and worldwide through self-help initiatives.

As an example of those initiatives. Indigenous families in Guatemala are learning how to grow more and better foods for their families by using greenhouses, catchment irrigation and mini-garden planters made of used tires.
They are also learning how to organize themselves, gain social and economic empowerment and market their extra harvest.
