Lady Viking volleyball team spikes Northfield

A team effort by the Huntington North High School varsity volleyball team helped push the Lady Vikings past visiting Northfield in five sets, with scores of 26-28, 25-16, 25-14, 22-25, 15-11 on Tuesday, Sept. 15

Junior Este Stoffel led the Huntington offense with 14 kills and one ace. Sophomore Alexis Wygant had 12 kills and an ace, and junior Kayla Koch recorded 44 assists.
On defense, Stoffel led the team with 25 digs. Jordan Sanders had 21 digs and Wygant recorded 17 digs.

The team is now 4-13 on the season.

HU women's tennis team up to .500 with win over Spring Arbor

The Huntington University women's tennis team improved to .500 with a 6-3 win against host Spring Arbor University on Tuesday, Sept. 14.

The Foresters went 4-2 in singles and 2-1 in doubles.

In singles, Haley Neiderhiser defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1. Aleksandra Spasic won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2; Erica Abel was victorious at No. 5, 6-1, 6-4; and at No. 6, Stacie Cressman won 6-1, 6-1.

At doubles, Neiderhiser teamed up with Joni Holsem to win 8-6 at No. 1, while Erica Abel and Jessica Abel won 8-4 at No. 3.

Huntington is now 3-3 on the season.

Three-goal burst in second half by Kokomo sinks Viking soccer team

After an explosive first half, the Huntington North High School boys' varsity soccer team fell to host Kokomo 4-3 on Tuesday, Sept. 14.

Kokomo scored the first goal of the game after goalkeeper Kyle Williams blocked a 25-yard shot that ended up rolling into the goal. But Huntington was revved up by a goal from Isaac Wust, and then proceeded to score two more in the first half, via a penalty kick by Colin Downey and a shot from Tyler Wemhoff. The teams left the field at halftime with a 3-1 score in Huntington's favor.

Columbia City sinks Lady Viking golfers

All scoring members of Columbia City scored lower than all but one Huntington North High School girls' golf player to beat HNHS 179-205 at Eagle Glen Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 14.

Laurisa Richard shot a 44 for the low Lady Viking score. Maddie Meese had a 50, Morgan O'Banion shot a 52 and Shawna Titus had a 59 for Huntington.

Lauren McCullough was the non-scorer with a 69.

Columbia City's Rachel Hazelet was Tuesday's medalist with a score of 40.

 

Lady Viking golfers lose to Concordia Lutheran

The Huntington North High School girls' golf team lost to host Concordia Lutheran 174-186 at McMillan Golf Course on Monday, Sept. 13.

Laurisa Richard had the low score for HNHS with a 42. Liz Conley and Shawna Titus each had 46, and Morgan O'Banion shot a 52 to round out the Lady Vikes' scoring.

Maddie Meese was the non-scorer with a 56.

Concordia's Margaret Fritz was the medalist for the day with a 37.

 

HNHS JV football teams remains unbeaten; tags Kokomo Monday

The Huntington North High School junior varsity football team remains undefeated after rolling past host Kokomo 20-8 on Monday, Sept. 13.

Tyler Robinson set things off for the Vikings, now 4-0, with a 73-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the first play of the game.

Braydin Stell added a second touchdown for HNHS later in the game. Andrew Coe hit two field goals - one 40 yards and the other 32 yards - to make the win happen for the Vikes.

 

Crestview volleyball teamssplit with Indian Hills

The Crestview Middle School eighth grade volleyball team won two sets with scores of 25-14, 25-22, to roll by host Indian Springs on Monday, Sept. 13.

Rachel Anderson led the Cougar offense with 10 points, while Monica Minton and Hanna Bomba each had seven points and four digs. Maggie Hollman had four kills and Audrey Hiebel had two kills.

The eighth grade team is now 2-2 on the season.

In the seventh grade game, Crestview lost to Indian Springs in three games, with scores of 25-23, 19-25, 12-15.

Lady Eagle spikers lose

Despite holding the lead for a least a portion of three of four sets, the Huntington Lady Eagles homeschool varsity volleyball team lost to the visiting Fort Wayne Falcons in four sets, with scores of 23-25, 15-25, 25-19, 19-25, on Thursday, Sept. 9.

In the first set, the teams tied at 7-7, but then Kelsey Featherston was able to punch a hole in Fort Wayne's offense while serving to allow Huntington a 21-18 lead. A series of errors, however, caused the Lady Eagles to lose the set.

Riverview hosts cross country invite

Riverview Middle School held its annual Riverview Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 11.

The co-ed invite included 252 runners representing nine schools. Medals were awarded to the top 10 finishers, and the top three girls in the eighth and seventh grade races were also recognized.

In the eighth grade race, Isaac Ayala placed first to take Marion-McCulloch to total 42 points and win the event.

Huntington Catholic spikers beat Riverview

Both the seventh and eighth grade Riverview Middle School volleyball teams fell to visiting Huntington Catholic Middle School on Monday, Sept. 13.

The eighth grade Raiders lost in two sets, with scores of 23-25, 19-25.

Hannah Hubley led the team with seven points, followed by Lauren Stephan with six points, Maddi Kennedy with four points and Brianna Monroe with three points.

In seventh grade action, Riverview won the first set 25-9, but lost the second and third sets for the loss, with scores of 17-25, 14-15.

Ogle shines for HU in Mel Brodt Cross Country Invitational

Cendall Ogle placed first in the NCAA Division 2/NAIA division at the Mel Brodt Invitational at Bowling Green on Saturday, Sept. 11, to lead the Huntington University women's cross country team.

Ogle, a freshmen from Warsaw, finished sixth overall behind five NCAA Division I runners with a time of 18:47 in easily the best performance of the day by an HU runner.

The Foresters placed sixth among seven teams in their division with 150 points.

Bowling Green, with individual champion Abby Koch and five of the first nine finishers, won the meet with 21 points.

Herber leads HU men's cross country team at Brodt Invitational

Joseph Herber placed fourth in the NCAA Division 2/NAIA division to lead the Huntington University men's cross team at the Mel Brodt Invitational at Bowling Green State University on Saturday, Sept. 11.

Herber placed 16th in 26:06 among team competitors as HU finished last out of seven teams with 223 points.

Nathan Rupp was second man for HU with 37th place in 26:50. Alex Rosario was 39th in 26:53.5, Lance Wood was 48th in 27:19.2 and Matt Bittner was 78th in 28:49.2.

S. Lewis places second to lead HNHS boys' cross country team to runner-up spot at Blackford

Sean Lewis captured second place to lead the Huntington North High School boys' cross country team to total 82 points and place second overall out of 17 teams in the Blackford CrossCountry Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 11.

Lewis crossed the finish line in 16:14.35 to finish less than one second behind champion Kevin Handshoe, of West Noble.
