Kramer to continue basketball career with Fort Wayne NBDL team

Former Huntington North High School star athlete Chris Kramer has signed with the NBA Development League's Fort Wayne Mad Ants in an attempt to fight for one of 17 spots on the team's 2010-2011 roster beginning Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the team's training camp.

The official announcement was made Wednesday, Nov. 3, in North Arena in front of many students and staff members of the high school. The Mad Ants' head coach Joey Meyer and team president Jeff Potter were also on hand.

Kids Kampus sets 6th annual Turkey Trot

Pathfinder Kids Kampus will host the sixth annual Turkey Trot 5K run and one-mile fun walk on Thanksgiving morning.

Registration starts at 7 a.m. The one-mile fun run will start at 8:30 a.m.

The race is sponsored by McDonald's, Parkview Huntington Hospital, David Culp & Co., Mettler Agency, Inc., El Shaddai, Inc., Markle Bank, Custom Craft, and the Fort Wayne Track Club.

It will start from McDonald's, located at 60 Home St., in Huntington, at 8 a.m.

Varsity Eagles defeat Anderson Crusaders

The Huntington Varsity Eagles defeated the visiting Anderson Crusaders, 62-41, at the Salamonie School gym in Warren in Friday, Oct. 29.

Caleb Featherston led the way for the Eagles with 20 points, 11 rebounds and six steals. Samuel Daniels added 17 points, five rebounds and four steals.

Matt Weaver had eight points and nine rebounds, and Brock Hitzfield added eight points and six rebounds.

Na-son Smith led the Crusaders with 19 points.

The Junior Varsity Eagles lost, 42-47.

Shively, Zawadzki click for 45 to carry Foresters past Indiana Tech in men's hoop opener

Tyler Shively and Kellen Zawadzki combined for 45 points to carry the Huntington University men's basketball team over host Indiana Tech 76-60 in the Foresters' season opener on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Zawadzki scored 23 points and Shively had 22. Caleb Kennedy and Chris Kent backed up the lead duo with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Huntington found its sweet spot from behind the arc, nailing 11 of 17 threes. Free throws also helped the Huntington advantage as HU made 23 of 30 attempts, or 76.7 percent.

Kennedy had 10 of Huntington's 42 rebounds over Tech's 34.

Forester women too much for Indiana Tech in hardcourt opener

A team effort was the key to the Huntington University women's basketball team's season-opener win as four Foresters scored in double digits to take HU over host Indiana Tech, 61-53, on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Kelsey Green and Pazia Speed each netted 13 points, while Allison Greene added 12 and Taylor Foley scored 10 for the Foresters.

HU volleyball team ends season at 3-30

The Huntington University women's volleyball team ended its season 3-30 after losing its final game of the season to host Taylor University in three sets, with scores of 21-25, 16-25, 12-25 on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Huntington came out with a 16-11 lead in the first set but Taylor marched right back to take the first game and the next two to win the evening.

Courtney Berger and Melissa Grossman each had six kills for the Foresters. Emilie Jamison had 16 assists.

Huntington University's women's soccer team will advance to the semifinal round of the Mid-Central Conference Tournament after the team defeated visiting Grace College, 2-1, in the first round on Saturday, Oct. 30.
Sam Cubic blasted in a 40-yard goal in the opening minutes of the game to give Huntington an early 1-0 lead.

After Grace scored in the 21st minute, HU was able to retaliate in the second half.

At the 72-minute mark, Brittany Hartman slipped by a Lancer defender to score Huntington's second goal off an assist by Claire Creasy.

HU volleyball team splits over weekend in own tournament

The Huntington University volleyball team broke its 16-game losing streak after splitting its own Huntington University Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 30.

The Foresters defeated Lourdes College in three sets, with scores of 25-22, 25-18, 25-14, and then lost to Indiana University-East in three sets, with scores of 14-25, 14-25, 13-25.

In the Lourdes win, Melissa Grossman and Kaylee Searles had 15 and 11 kills, respectively. Searles added 17 digs while Emilie Jamison recorded 32 assists.

Senior trio leads HNHS girls to 16th at state cross country meet

Led by the senior trio of Natalie Spahr, Becca Goodman and Gretchen Spahr, the Huntington North High School girls' cross country team placed 16th out of 24 teams at the state championships in Terre Haute on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Natalie Spahr paced the Lady Vikings to a team score of 384 points by placing 56th among team runners in 19:55.3, Goodman grabbed 67th in 20:04.7 and Gretchen Spahr placed 82nd in 20:18.4.

Sophomore Kayla Patrick was 89th in 20:28.1 and freshman Pauline Grunden took 90th in 20:31.6 to complete the HNHS scoring.
