Announce Roanoke parade winning entries

Winners have been announced in the Roanoke Fall Festival parade, which was held Saturday, Sept. 11.

The Commander's Trophy went to a 1944 Jeep, and the overall winner was the Roanoke Volunteer Fire Department.
Other winners are:

Floats - Zion Church, first; Sonrise Church, second; Union Church, third.

Antique units - Seminary Church, first; Dan Flora, second.
Motorized units - Mizpah Shriners, first; Dan Wisel's 1951 JD "G."

Most unusual - Joy Pleasers.

Good old-fashioned preaching at Pioneer

Those attending the old-time worship service Sunday, Sept. 26 at Hier's Park are in for some good old-fashioned preaching.

The non-denominational worship service is part of the activities for the Forks of the Wabash Pioneer Festival and will begin at 9 a.m. at the outdoor stage.

Luke Jackson will lead the morning's service. His congregation will also hold regular services at their home church, Huntington Church of Christ, 1105 S. Broadway, at 10:30 a.m.

Pioneer Fest adding several new attractions this coming weekend

Teddy Roosevelt, buffalo burgers and harmonica blues are all new attractions at this year's Forks of the Wabash Pioneer Festival.

The 35th annual festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25 and 26, at Hier's Park. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, with an old-fashioned worship service at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Moment of silence

The Roanoke Fall Festival Parade stopped for a moment of silence in honor of Spc. Chad Clements, a Huntington man killed in Afghanistan last month while serving with the United States Army. The parade on Saturday, Sept. 11, was dedicated to Clements, and Steve McClure of American Legion Post 160 knelt down with an American flag in front of a banner honoring Clements as the parade paused.
