Salamonie lists perfect attendance

Salamonie School has honored students who achieved perfect attendance during the third quarter of the 2016-17 school year.

They are:

Roanoke Elementary honors students for perfect attendance in third quarter

Roanoke Elementary School has honored students who achieved perfect attendance during the third quarter of the 2016-17 school year.

Corbin Ambriole, Gracelynn Anderson, Eric Beihold, Jocelyn Blair, Brody Bolen, Emmett Brown, Clayten Bustos, Gage Byerly, Griffin Castle, Brice Cornell, Jaxon Crawford, Kendal DeHaven, McKenzie DeHaven, Georgia Denney, Sydney Diffenbaugh, Samuel Eckert, Lexy Ellet, Cohen Endsley and Noah Fleischman.

Donors to Community and Family Services can receive state tax credits

Contributions made to Community and Family Services can qualify the donor for Indiana tax credits.

The tax credits are available through a Neighborhood Assistance Program grant awarded by the state to Community and Family Services.

Anyone who makes a donation of $100 or more is qualified to receive a tax credit on their Indiana state income tax return of 50 percent of the donation. Donations made prior to March 31 can be used for a tax credit on the 2017 return.

A limited number of tax credits is available and will be given out on a first come, first served basis.

Roanoke artist Cherie Droege will instruct painting workshop in Wabash

Roanoke artist Cherie Droege will lead a watercolor painting workshop on Thursday, May 11, at the Wabash Christian Church, 110 W. Hill St., Wabash.

Set-up starts at 8:30 a.m. The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 or 4 p.m., with a break for lunch. Participants should bring a sack lunch.

The workshop is sponsored by the Wabash Art Guild.

Musicians get advice prior to ISSMA competition

The Huntington North High School Wind Ensemble participated in an invitational clinic at Lawrence Central High School, in Indianapolis, on March 15.

The ensemble performed for a group of university clinicians, who critiqued the performance and provided recorded and written comments. Clinicians were Dr. Jay Kennedy, of the Berklee School of Music; Dr. Doug Droste, of Ball State University; Dr. Dan Tembrass, of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne; and Stan DeRusha, of Butler University.

Roanoke Elementary School has announced the names of students who earned honor roll status for the third quarter of the 2016-17 school year.

Guild will repeat performance Sunday at LaFontaine Center

Huntington Theatre Guild Act II will present an encore performance of the interactive murder mystery, “Café Murder,” on Sunday, March 26, at 2 p.m. in the ballroom of the LaFontaine Center.

Tickets include the performance and a choice of desserts and coffee or tea.

All proceeds will go toward the Hotel LaFontaine documentary project.

Volunteers can get involved in river cleanup in Warren on Earth Day

Volunteers are needed to help clean up the banks of the Salamonie River, in Warren, on Earth Day, April 22.

The cleanup is being led by Warren Health and Fitness and Mike Haggerty, who says the project is designed to beautify the entrance to Warren from the south.

The river will also play a large role in events to be sponsored by Warren Health and Fitness during this summer’s Salamonie Summer Festival.

The volunteers will burn brush and pick up trash along a section of the Salamonie River near Salamonie Mills. The cleanup will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Orientation at Flint Springs is April 25

Flint Springs Elementary School will host its 2017-18 kindergarten orientation on Tuesday, April 25, beginning at 6 p.m.

Students must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2017, to enroll.

Parents must bring an up-to-date vaccination record and birth certificate.

Optimists honor Crestview’s Driscoll and Gibson

Grace Driscoll and James Parker Gibson, both eighth grade students at Crestview Middle School, have been recognized with the Huntington Optimist Club’s 2017 Youth Appreciation Award.

The award is presented annually to two students each from Crestview, Huntington Catholic and Riverview middle schools, along with three students from Huntington North High School. It honors students who demonstrate outstanding dedication and service to their school, the community and its citizens.

Driscoll and Gibson were recognized on March 2.

Creative Abilities artists contribute works to show

Works created by artists from the Pathfinder Services Creative Abilities Art Studio are on display, and available for purchase, at the ReNEWal Art Show through April 23, at the First Presbyterian Church, in Fort Wayne.

Show hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., as well as during every First Presbyterian Theater production. Admission is free.

The show, funded by the AWS Foundation, gives members of the Northeast Indiana Artists with Disabilities Community the opportunity to interpret the concept of renewal.

Orientation sessions set for incoming kindergartners

Huntington County elementary schools will hold kindergarten orientation sessions in April and May.

Children who will be 5 years old by Aug. 1 are eligible to enroll in kindergarten in the fall of 2017. They and their parents are invited to attend the orientation sessions. Parents should bring the child’s original birth certificate and record of immunizations.

iAB recognizes employees reaching milestones

iAB financial bank has recognized 38 employees celebrating milestone anniversaries with the organization during 2017. These employees represent a combined 365 years of service and on Thursday, March 2, a breakfast was held in their honor.

At this gathering, employees also took the opportunity to select the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Fort Wayne to receive a $1,000 donation in commemoration of the partnerships iAB has formed with both its employees as well as with the community.
