The Duke employees spent a day working on the house as part of the company's Global Service Event. Other companies willing to schedule a Habitat work day should call the Habitat office at 356-7425. The Iowa Street house should be complete in about six weeks, and construction on a new Habitat house will begin early this fall.

Andrews High School reunion set for Aug. 7

Classmates, friends, teachers and staff of Andrews High School are invited to the 2010 reunion, set for Aug. 7, at LaFontaine Golf Club.

Cocktail hour starts at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. A cash bar will also be available.

Invitations have been sent to members, however those with updated addresses can contact Barbara Fusselman at 468-2764.

Reservations are necessary and there is a cost for the event.

Attendees are also asked to bring any Andrews High School memorabilia to share with the group.

The deadline for reservations is July 17.

Pathfinder offers Parents Night Out

Pathfinder Kids Kampus Early Childhood Center is offering a Parents' Night Out program on July 23, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Kids Kampus, 435 Campus St., through funding from Pathfinder Foundation, Inc.

Parents' Night Out is a free, regularly scheduled event for children with disabilities and special needs.
The program provides physical care, motor and recreational activities to children while offering parents and caregivers a well-deserved break.

Trinity UMC restoring treasured art

Trinity United Methodist Church is undergoing a four-phase restoration project of the church's stained glass windows.

Originally installed in 1914 when the church was built, the windows have withstood almost 100 years of rain, sleet and snow.

Church member Gaylord Eutsler says the Window Creations, of Otterville, was chosen to complete the four phases of the restoration project.

The company specializes in restoring stained glass windows.

Pair on Saint Mary’s dean’s list

Saint Mary's College has announced its Dean's List for the spring 2010 semester, and two local students have been honored.

Jennifer Kornexl, of Huntington, is the daughter of Suzanne and Brian Kornexl.

Alicia Smith, of Huntington, is the daughter of Joyce and Tod Smith.

To be named to this list, students must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.4, based on a 4.0 scale.

 

I&M Power offering free recycle pickup

Indiana Michigan Power is offering its customers in Indiana free pickup and recycling of their old, inefficient refrigerators and freezers.

Those customers will save $150 a year in energy costs by replacing the appliances, I&M says, and they'll also get a $30 rebate check from I&M.

I&M's program vendor, JACO Environmental, removes the appliances from participating customers' homes at no charge and then safely dismantles and recycles the energy-guzzling appliances in an environmentally responsible manner.

Artists can paint hydrants in Huntington

The Huntington Arts Initiative Inc., is seeking professional artists, art teachers, and art majors to participate in an ongoing art exhibit in Huntington.

The exhibit will feature fire hydrants in the downtown area painted to resemble dogs of various breeds. This exhibit offers artists a showcase for their talents, an opportunity for them to sell some other works of art, and a chance to support the Huntington Arts Initiative and its renovation of The Studio.

Wagon Wheel hosts holiday concert series July 1-3 in downtown Warren

The Wagon Wheel Bar and Grill, Warren, will host a Fourth of July Concert Series July 1-3 in Warren.
The series is sponsored by radio station WQHK (K105), Fort Wayne.

"We are very excited about our first concert series. It's hopefully the first of many," says Joel Buzzard, spokesman for the Wagon Wheel. "We have an extremely talented lineup and this event promises to be a lot of fun."

Nashville recording artist Jessie Brown is first up on Thursday, July 1. Brown grew up singing southern gospel before taking the country stage.

Entries sought for baby photo contest at 4-H Fair

Entries are currently being sought for the 29th Annual People's Choice Baby Photo Contest, sponsored by Huntington County Right to Life.

Contest rules include:
• The child must have been born during 2008, 2009 or 2010.

• He/she must be a resident of Huntington County.

• Acceptable photos are unframed, of the child only and no larger than 8-by-10 inches.

• Photos must include the full name of the child, date of birth, gender, name of parents, address and telephone number.

• Entries are due no later than July 19 at 6 p.m.

St. Mary's College has announced its dean's list for the spring 2010 semester, and two local students have been honored.

Huntington Baptist to host VBS

Huntington Baptist Church will be hosting its vacation Bible school, July 5 to 9, from 9 a.m. to noon daily.

"Saddle Ridge Ranch" will feature crafts at Blazing Star Stables; missions at Firefly Cavern; music at Campfire Creek; recreation at Mustang Mountain and snacks at the Big Sky Grill.

Youth will also visit Worship Rally Valley and the Bible Study Bunkhouse.

The program is designed for youth three years through those who have recently completed sixth grade.

There is no cost for the program.
