The Well to host 13-week Financial Peace University program

The Well will host the 13-week Financial Peace University program beginning Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m.

The church is located at 2080 Old U.S.-24 East in Huntington.

The program, presented on DVD by financial advisor Dave Ramsey, teaches families and individuals to handle their money through common sense principles and small group accountability.

Each participant must purchase a kit that includes course materials and a lifetime family membership in Financial Peace University. Kits can be purchased online at www.daveramsey. com or by calling 888-227-3223.

Saturday rock-athon in Roanoke will benefit Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

American Legion Post 160, Roanoke, will host a Cystic Fibrosis Rock-athon, sponsored by the Huntington County Salon 490 8/40, on Saturday, Aug. 21, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Individuals can make donations or participate in taking pledges as well.

Each participant who collects $50 will earn an official CF T-shirt. Additional prizes are available.

Proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for medical research.

RoadRunners will visit Wright Patterson Museum

The Warren RoadRunners are taking a trip to Wright Patterson Air Force Museum on Monday, Aug. 23.

The National Museum of the United States Air Force galleries present military aviation history with more than 400 aerospace vehicles.

The reservation deadline is Aug. 21.

The bus leaves at 8:30 a.m. from the Warren Church of Christ parking lot, 302 N. Wayne St., Warren.

A lunch stop is planned after visiting the museum.

Daniels speaks to youth at Roush Lake

As the summer begins to wind down, Gov. Mitch Daniels paid a visit to members of the Young Hoosier Conservation Corps at J. Edward Roush Lake on Wednesday, Aug. 11, to listen to the youths' experiences and discuss the future of the program.

"Indiana is a lot better off than it would have been without you," Daniels said. "What you've done here is going to last a long time."

Pathfinder Services to offer 13-week course

Pathfinder Services will host the 13-week Financial Peace University program beginning Thursday, Aug. 26, at 6 p.m. at 2824 Theater Ave.

The program, presented on DVD by financial advisor Dave Ramsey, teaches families and individuals to handle their money through common sense principles and small group accountability.

Each participant must purchase a kit that includes course materials and a lifetime family membership in Financial Peace University.

Knight, Boyer farms are part of SWCD field day

The Huntington County Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a Pasture Walk/Cover Crop Field Day on Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 1 p.m.

The field day will begin with a pasture walk at the Waldo Knight farm, located at 10787 S. Wayne Rd. in Warren.

From there, the group will go to Jerry Boyer's farm, located at 8437 S. Warren Rd., Warren, for the cover crop session at 3:30 p.m.

Representatives from the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Farm Service Agency (FSA) will provide information about their current and upcoming programs.

Hendryx, Place earn degrees

Kaplan University held a graduation ceremony for its 2010 online summer class on Aug. 7 in Chicago, IL.

Among the graduates were Huntington residents Tammy Hendryx and Janet Place, each earning an Associate of Applied Science in paralegal studies.

 

Dance class will begin on Sept. 13

Beginning round dance lessons will start on Sept. 13, with lessons offered on Monday nights from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. at Huntington Moose Lodge 837.

Butch Tracey will be the instructor for two-step, waltz, cha-cha, and rumba basics.

Individuals can sign up for five-week sessions, advancing to another five-week session at the same cost if they choose to.

Youth complete financial training

Twenty-one children who completed a Youth Financial Literacy Project in Fort Wayne were guests at a graduation party hosted by Pathfinder Community Connections, the community development division of the Huntington-based Pathfinder Services, which sponsored the class.

The students received prizes for completing the course, including a cash payment that will be matched by NeighborWorks America if the child achieves the savings goals set during the class. The students learned the importance of money management skills.

Lake City Bank CEO to speak at Leadership Luncheon

Michael L. Kubacki, chairman, president and CEO of Lake City Bank, is the featured speaker for the first Huntington University Leadership Luncheon of the 2010-11 season.

The luncheon, sponsored by the Huntington University Center for Leadership, will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 25, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Habecker Dining Commons.

Kubacki, who recently completed a term as a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and chaired its Audit Committee, will speak about the Federal Reserve System and its response to the recent financial crisis during the luncheon.

Taste of Roanoke set for this Saturday

Main Street in Roanoke will be filled with the smells of local eateries and food cooked by Roanoke organizations this coming weekend during the 17th annual Taste of Roanoke festival on Saturday, Aug. 21.

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., visitors can sample some of the delicacies that Roanoke's food establishments have to offer. In addition, several churches and civic organizations will prepare food to support their respective causes.

Dinner, auction will raise money for stained glass

Trinity United Methodist Church will hold a fundraising dinner and auction on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 6 p.m.

The event is a fundraiser for the church's Stained Glass Restoration Fund. The total cost of removing, cleaning, repairing and restoring the windows, along with the addition of protective storm windows, is $220,000.

The first phase of the project, which includes 11 small and two large windows at a cost of $73,000, is already paid for.

The church has collected approximately $40,000 in pledges for the second phase of the project.

State Farm seeks youth to serve on board charged with administering grants

The State Farm Youth Advisory Board is accepting applications for board members to administer a unique grant program that empowers youth to take an active role in their education through service-learning.

The board, made up of a diverse group of students ages 17-20, is selected based on State Farm's review of their applications and telephone interviews with the top 10 applicants by the State Farm zone in which they live.
