Riverside holding vaccination clinic Nov. 13

Riverside Veterinary Clinic will sponsor a vaccination clinic for cats and dogs, on Nov. 13, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Hier's Park.

In addition to the one-year and three-year rabies vaccines, nail trimming will be offered.

Other vaccines available for dogs include DHLPPC, Bordetella (Kennel Cough) and Lyme.
Cat vaccines available include FVRCP/FeLV, with the feline leukemia virus, and FVRCP, without the virus.

There is a cost for all the shots offered. Cash is the only accepted form of payment.

All dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a carrier.

Flint Springs Elementary names honor roll students for quarter

Flint Springs has announced its honor roll for the first quarter of the 2010-2011 school year.

Forks to have annual dinner

Historic Forks of the Wabash, Inc., and Friends of the Forks will hold their annual dinner meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. at the LaFontaine Center, 208 W. State St. in Huntington.

The dinner was originally scheduled to be held in the educational multi-purpose room being added to the museum at the Forks of the Wabash Historic Park. However, the continuing construction at the site will not permit a dinner to be held there, organizers say.

Last-minute reservations may be called in to the Historic Forks office at 356-1903.

 

YWCA honors Wehr and Richison for work at local child advocacy center

YWCA Northeast recognized Huntington County Prosecutor Amy Richison and Lutheran Hospital nurse Cynthia Wehr on Oct. 27, presenting them with Indiana Hope awards for child advocacy for their work with Huntington's McKenzie's Hope Child Advocacy Center.

Hope Award recipients are nominated by their fellow community members as individuals who are working to provide hope and positive impact in the category for which they were nominated.

Richison and Wehr were nominated by Amber Kaushik, executive director at McKenzie's Hope.

Advanced Engineering opens second Huntington facility

Advanced Engineering, locally owned and operated, opened its second facility in the Huntington community on Monday, Nov. 1.

A partnership between Phil Layman, his brother John Layman, and Dan Thompson, the operation began in 1982 out of a garage. In 1989, their original facility located at 5299 N. Mishler Rd. was opened.

The new facility is 23,500 square-feet and is located off of Ind.-5 by the Huntington Municipal Airport. It holds the possibility for office leasing in the front and AE expansion within, Phil Layman said Monday.

YMCA will showcase locally-owned businesses

The Parkview Huntington Family YMCA will host a Christmas Shopping Day on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the YMCA.

All locally-owned businesses in Huntington County are invited to contact the YMCA about setting up a booth to showcase their merchandise. There is no cost to the business to set up a display.

The displays are expected to draw those visiting the YMCA that day for Kim League youth basketball, youth swim classes and fitness classes. The community will also be invited to shop.

Historical Society seeks Miller Award nominees

The Huntington County Historical Society is seeking nominations from the community for the annual Virginia Miller award.

Applications will be accepted from now until Nov. 15.

The award is presented to a person or persons whose efforts to preserve some aspect of Huntington County history should be recognized by the general public. A committee including past recipients of this award will choose this year's winner.

Nominations from the public are invited and should be sent to the Huntington County Historical Museum, 315 Court St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Dinner will benefit man hurt in fall

St. Peter Lutheran Church will host its annual fish and tenderloin supper, on Saturday, Nov. 6, in the church's gymnasium.

The all-you-can-eat supper will be served from 5 to 7 p.m., with handicap access available at the north end of the building.

The menu includes fish, hand-breaded tenderloin, homemade German potato salad, potato chips, applesauce, bread and butter, plus a variety of homemade pies.

A bazaar will be held at the same time with baked goods, handmade crafts and gifts for sale.

Carry-outs will be available at the John Street entrance.

Junior Leaders will meet on Nov. 11 at Hier’s Park

The Huntington County 4-H Junior Leaders will meet on Thursday, Nov. 11, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Heritage Hall, Hier's Park, Huntington.

Members will be signing up for committee work and there will be a special speaker and program in recognition of Veterans Day. A printed schedule of future meeting dates and events will also be distributed during this meeting.

HU grads return to campus with Christian comedy act

Dave & Dwayne Ministries Inc. will be in performance at Huntington University for two shows in November.

The Christian comedy act will perform on Friday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 6, at 3 p.m., in the Longaker Recital Hall of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

Based in Columbus, OH, David O'Roark and Dwayne Smith, both graduates of Huntington University, have traveled across the country to entertain people of all ages with their comedy drama sketches.
